1. Are your devices eye safe according to the ANSI standard?

The American National Standard Institute (ANSI) approved a standard titled “American National Standard for Safe Use of Lasers.” This standard was first approved in 1993 and the current version, Z136.1-2010 was approved in 2007.  Laser Energetics, Inc. designed the Dazer Laser® Product Line to meet all guidelines and control levels for the ANSI Z136.1 standard.

Effective Dazing at any desired range requires an energy level SEVERAL ORDERS OF MAGNITUDE BELOW the ANSI recommended “safe” radiation level.  Therefore, being “Dazed with the Dazer Laser® is completely safe when operated according to safe ranges which begin at 1 meter.

The “safe” range for all models starts at 1meter and extends to < 240 meters when dazing with extended range models at ranges greater than a mile.  Laser Energetics has made it simple for the user to determine the “ANSI safe range” or RNOHD (Nominal Optical Hazard Distance) for all focus range conditions – it is simply 1/10 the dial reading.  Example:

Set range at 10m, NOHD = 1m                Set range at 50m, NOHD = 5m

The safe range defined by the ANSI standard has a significant margin or safety factored into it and allows the Dazer Laser® to be operated eye safe at all ranges.

2. Do your products meet all international safety laws?

Dazer Laser® Products meet all international safely laws and follow all ITAR Ragulations per the US State Department Directorate of Defense Trade Contorls. The Geneva Convention adopted an international safety law and protocol on Laser weapons, listed below.

United Nations Convention on Prohibitions or Restrictions on the Use of Certain Conventional Weapons Which May be Deemed to be Excessively Injurious or to Have Indiscriminate Effects. Protocol on Blinding Laser Weapons (Protocol IV to the 1980 Convention), 13 October 1995.  It is prohibited to employ laser weapons specifically designed, as their sole combat function or as one of their combat functions, to cause permanent blindness to unenhanced vision that is to the naked eye or to the eye with corrective eyesight devices. The High Contracting Parties shall not transfer such weapons to any State or non-State entity.

Article 2
In the employment of laser systems, the High Contracting Parties shall take all feasible precautions to avoid the incidence of permanent blindness to unenhanced vision. Such precautions shall include training of their armed forces and other practical measures.

Article 3
Blinding as an incidental or collateral effect of the legitimate military employment of laser systems, including laser systems used against optical equipment, is not covered by the prohibition of this protocol.

Article 4
For the purpose of this protocol "permanent blindness" means irreversible and uncorrectable loss of vision which is seriously disabling with no prospect of recovery. Serious disability is equivalent to visual acuity of less than 20/200 Snellen measured using both eyes.

3. Are there any long term effects of being Dazed?

When the green light hits the threat’s eyes, it instantly impairs the vision of the threat (ocular distracter). Simultaneously, the threat’s equilibrium and awareness can be impaired which, in some cases, may be followed by a feeling of nausea (motion sickness). These temporary effects begin in fractions of a second, lasting seconds to minutes depending on the threats physiology. There are no long term effects from being dazed even after repeated dazings.

4. Has anyone ever experienced eye injuries from your products?

No one has ever experienced an eye injury from our products and have been designed to achieve maximum effectiveness and maximum safety.
